You went to the gym two days ago and felt good about yourself. You sweat it all out, carried the heaviest weights in your programme, and even remembered to drink your protein shake at the right time. But today, you’re heading off again to the gym only to realise that you’ve left your protein shaker in your gym bag… unwashed!
You brave it. You take a deep breath and open the protein shaker to wash it. The smell that greets you is just like the smell of death – pungent, minging, reeking! We’ve all been there before and we all know that no matter how much washing-up liquid you use and no matter how hard you scrub it, the smell just sticks.
When this happens, you might as well just throw them away and spend another £5 to get a new bottle. Except that you’ve already bought so many!
Here are 3 tips to clean those smelly protein shakers:
Rinse after you drink
Rinse your protein shaker with cold water after drinking from it. You can use water from the changing room, the water fountain, or even from your water bottle. Rinsing gets rid of most of the protein residue, which you can wash off later with a washing-up liquid when you’re back home.
Use cold water
Protein shakes are packed with proteins that naturally love to stick on plastic surfaces. Using If hot water to rinse and wash ‘cooks’ the proteins on the plastic surface, making them stickier and harder to remove. Best to use cold water for rinsing and washing.
Use Nimble Milk Buster
Unlike regular washing-up liquids that are made for food grease from pots and dishes, Nimble Milk Buster has a patented formula specially made to detach milk proteins from plastic. It also has a special odour fighting molecule that absorbs malodours and leave your protein shakers smelling clean and without the smell of washing-up liquid. It’s originally for baby bottles, but it works on protein shakers too and any other plastic containers for milk.
Why don’t you give Nimble Milk Buster a try and say good bye to primitive kitchen hacks like baking soda and vinegar? There is a full size 200 ml bottle that you can use at home but it also comes in a 60 ml bottle that easily fits your gym bag, so you can spray it into your protein shaker as you rinse it after you drink from it.
