The festive period is here! This month, we teamed up with our friends from Piccolo to share some festive recipes for the whole family. Here's a delish recipe for pumpkin scones, perfect with a pot of tea or milk.

Makes 10 scones | Preparation: 15 minutes | Cooking: 25 minutes | Suitable from 12 months

Ingredients you'll need:

  • 2 eating apples, peeled and chopped into small cubes

  • 1 orange, peeled and chopped into small cubes

  • 1 medium carrot, peeled grated

  • Zest & juice of 1 orange

  • 7 tablespoons raisins

  • 1-2 tablespoons runny honey or maple syrup

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • ½ teaspoon ground gingerx

  • Pinch of ground nutmeg

  • 1 package shortcrust pastry

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C/ Fan 180°C/ Gas 6.

  2. Grease a baking sheet by rubbing with a bit of butter or lining with baking parchment.

  3. If you are using raw pumpkin, put the pumpkin pieces into a saucepan and cover them with water. Bring to the boil and simmer for 10 minutes until just tender. Drain and mash with a fork. Leave to cool.

  4. In a large bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar, baking powder and dried herbs and spices.

  5. Cut in the butter and mix with the tips of your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  6. 3. Combine either the pumpkin from the tin or the cooked pumpkin and the buttermilk; stir into crumb mixture just until moistened.

  7. Turn onto a lightly floured surface; knead 8-10 times. Pat or roll out to 1-in. thickness; cut with a floured 2-1/2-inch biscuit cutter. Place 1 in. apart on a greased baking sheet.

  8. Bake for 18-22 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm.
